Matt Cutts: Today’s question comes from Land Lubber in Colorado.
Land Lubber wants to know, “Is is true that domains registered before 2004 have a totally different way of getting PageRank? That is ‘Pre-2004’ domains are highly desirable to buy because they still get PageRank based on old easier criteria from back then.”
[pause]
Land Lubber that is completely false. There is [chuckles] absolutely no difference between [chuckles] 2004 domains,2005 domains,2006 domains; they all acquire reputation in the same way.
There is [chuckles] literally no value to getting a pre-2004 domain or pre-Google IPO domain or whatever conspiracy theory you wanna spew out.
Please we have enough crazy SEO theories going on without new ones, so no. There’s no [laughs] excuse me. There’s no [chuckles] difference whatsoever. Get a domain that works and works well for you and do not worry about whether it was created before 2004.
Quick Answer: No
