Well, if you make sure that the pages on your site link to you or, you know, the articles have links to yourself and if someone scraped you, then they might end up linking to you. And, you know, to the extent that that is a successful scraper or a successful spammer, those links will help you along.
So there are some people who really, really hate scrapers and try to crack down on them and try to get every single one deleted or kicked off their web host. I tend to be the sort of person who doesn’t really worry about it because the vast, vast, vast majority of the time, it’s going to be you that comes up not the scraper.
And, you know, if the guy is scraping and scrapes the content that has a linked to you, you know, he’s linking to you. So, worst case, it won’t hurt, but, you know, in some weird cases, it might actually help a little bit.
Most of the time, people don’t need to be worried about scrapers. They don’t have a large effect in terms of the actual impact on users very often.
So, if you see a scraper ranking higher than you, then you could consider doing a Digital Millennium Copyright Act request, a DMCA request, or if it’s a true spammer and they’re just, like, gibberish and all that sort of stuff, go ahead and do a spam report on them and then that can be another way to take action against the scraper.
